Autofire controller

Metal Slug is killing my thumbs, among other things, and I want to make an autofire pad for my Neo Geo MVS.  Can anyone recommend a good circuit for this?  It would be much appreciated

....any autofire circuit will work for this, cmon somebody has to know the name of an oscillator circuit or whatever that autofire controllers use :/

I'd use a 555 timer and a transistor  to do the switching (maybe a cmos 4066 if you don't like transistors). See http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/555/555.html for a tutorial on how to use this really handy IC.
