My current tv is a typical 27" with RCA inputs.  I would like to know if it would be worth the cost of getting an XRGB2-Plus w/ Japanese D-Terminal cables for my PS2 and Gamecube and using my 17" Flat-Screen, Viewsonic A75f CRT Monitor as the display.

Would the picture quality have a noticeable difference?
Would the improvement vs. cost be worthwhile?

Total Cost shipped w/ Cables would be $283.

Thanks in advance...

You'd get better results from your Gamecube using a VGA cable as opposed to the XRGB, and it'd cost a lot less.

Otherwise, the image quality difference is amazing.  It's up to you whether or not you feel it's worth the money.

If you have some electronical skills and are game enough to get inside there you could mod your tv to take rgb lines....all crt tvs can do it.You'll get better quality out of your tv because of the natural dithering effects and the fact that tvs are interlaced and upscan converters are just faking the interlacing and it doesn't tend it look that good. With a vga monitor I tend to find that it looks far to blocky for my liking. Some people prefer it because they like to see every pixel and believe they are seeing the picture as it was meant to be seen, but truth be told the game programmers weren't thinking about how it would look through a vga monitor and knew that the design of tvs would hide the flaws. Why would you pay 200 plus to see blockiness that wasn't meant to be seen? And through a much smaller screen for that matter?
That being said the vga monitor route is much easier, especially in the US where scart is non-existant...so what ever your time and wallet can handle, but like I said I don't really like the way a vga monitor looks especially on older low-res games.

Not only can you break your TV, but it's also a great way to give yourself instant cardiac arrest.  Fun!

Were would you find the RGB pins on a crt tv?

Modding your TV to accept RGB is a fool's mission.  Don't do it.  Don't even think about doing it.  Don't try to figure it out unless you're so good at this kind of thing you can solder better than you can write your own name.

Youre right, I probably end up electrocuting myself.

The only problem with Matt's suggestion is that there are a lot of GameCube games that wouldn't support a VGA cable. As you have a PS2 as well, I'd recommend the XRGB-2 Plus. Your major problem will be optimizing your cables. The XRGB-2 Plus has two inputs you really want to use, a D-Terminal and Japanese RGB. I have no idea where you can get an RGB cable for either console unless you modify a SCART cable.

about the cardiac arrest, generaly it only happens what you have two hands on both sides of the powersource, so keep one hand away from the tv! and 2 nice thick Silicon/ leather gloves are a life saver, literaly. :P
