PAL Mega Drive II -- B/W picture WITH RGB cable!

I have a problem with my PAL Mega Drive II system. I have installed Jap/Eng and 50/60Hz switches.

When I run a game in 60Hz on my PAL TV with the regular RF cable, I get a black and white picture, of course. But here's the problem:

I made an RGB cable for it -- and it works well in 50Hz (perfect RGB picture), but when I change it to 60Hz I STILL get a black and white picture. This has never happened with ANY system before! My TV can even play in 60Hz using only composite, but it still gives me a black and white picture with the RGB cable in 60Hz.

What could possibly be causing this? Any ideas at all?

Note:

I am not using pin 5 (SYNC), I am only using pin 4 (Composite Video).

I have connected COMPOSITE VIDEO to pin 20 on the SCART end:

If I am supposed to use SYNC as well, where do I connect it on the SCART plug?

Thanks for reading!

Connect sync OR composite video to pin 20 in the scart connector, it won't help to use both :-) However your problem sounds very strange... you sure you've wired the cable right so that it gives RGB picture? I am not questioning your abilities but please double check your piece of work, everyone can make mistakes.

I am assuming it is correctly wired since it works perfectly in 50Hz. I just don't understand why it won't work in 60Hz...

Any idea if it would work if I used sync instead of composite video?

But since it works in 50 and not 60 it could mean that it uses the composite video lead for picture(which it will if the scart connector is not wired up correctly for the TV to swith to RGB mode). And if the composite video lead is used then you will get a black and white picture in 60 Hz and a picture with color in 50 Hz. Try swaping the composite video lead in the scart connector for the sync lead instead, if you get a black and white picture och no picture at all in both 50 and 60 Hz now you can safely assume that something is not wired up correct in your cable.(or something else could be very wrong but I don't think it is...)

But like I said, I will get color in 60Hz using a regular composite cable (red white and yellow), this is the only time I've gotten black and white picture in 60Hz using any kind of SCART cable.

Ohh... oh my, here my abilities with the MD2 shows themselves(I thought the same rules as with the MD1 applied here)... You know that problem is none of which I can answer the cause of then.

Okay, I tested using sync instead of composite video. I got color, but some graphics were messed up and everything was very dark (white was grey, etc)

Then I tried sync+composite video, that resulted in good brightness and correct colors, but some messed up graphics.

Then I tried using sync only (again), that resulted in flickering.

Then I tried composite video (again), and that resulted in massive flickering.

The cable is really messy now and I guess I'll have to throw away the connector. I hope that is the result to why I got such a flickering picture.
