Hi to all!

I looked on E*b*a*y an N64 PAL with a 50/60Hz switch.

Anybody knows how to perform this mod?

Thanks to all.

phreak97

it isnt actually possible without combining two different region n64 consoles into one..
and even then i'd say it's not easy.. i wouldnt know where to start.

I thought 50/60Hz was controlled in software on the N64.  I'd have to find it and check it again to be sure, but I am pretty sure the v3 universal adapter I use to play NTSC games on a PAL N64 has a menu option to select 50/60Hz before the game starts

This is the link of the ebay auction:

Can someone tell me something about this?

Without actually seeing the unit I can't say for sure how it has been done.  I doubt it is just a simple switch though.  Perhaps someone has installed the chip from a universal adapter internally?

Hi idio8bit, thank you for reply!

I tried to search "N64 50/60Hz mod" on the web, but I didn't find anything!

This is the only US/JAP/PAL mod I know, It involve placing the two security(US/JAP and PAL) chip in one 64, but it work only I think for playing any region game on an 64, US/JAP game sould play in NTSC as normal and PAL game in PAL. I'm not sure if this right.

Maybe an US 64 modded this way will output PAL game in 60hz and maybe an PAL 64 modded this way will output US game in 50hz. Someone should test this this mod.

Unfortunatly this website is offline now :( But I had the good idea to copy this picture and the text on the website some year ago. There the text from the original site. Hope this help.

I remember that the guy that made this mod is d4s. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy that work on a hack for breath of fire on snes:

You could try to contact him for more info.

But i don't see any email on his blog.

QuoteI thought 50/60Hz was controlled in software on the N64.
It sure is. There are many patches for N64 games to fix both video and audio issues when playing NTSC-games on PAL units. I believe the PAL N64 BIOS default to 50Hz and the USA/JAP N64 BIOS default to 60Hz, and if the programmers don't spesifically hardcode the video mode to 60Hz in their games, the code will run slow at 50Hz on PAL systems.... I don't know this for a fact, so please confirm or correct me.

My guess is that a CIC switch alone will not solve the 50/60Hz issue, but if you combine it with a BIOS-switch it would work (I have, however, not seen a BIOS switch for the N64).
