I ordered a 8pin DIN plug and got this (forgive the photography):

But it doesn't fit, as the Genesis uses this:

Found the following picture on an electronics store website:

This seems to be evidence of atleast two different 8 pin DIN plugs.
I thought DIN was a standard. How many different 8 pin DIN plugs are there?

What (type?) do I need to look for to use with my Mega Drive?

There are two, the Genny uses one type, the Neo uses the other.  One is C-shaped, the other is U-shaped, as your blurry pics suggest.  There's no real standard for naming them, though I've heard some refer to one as an "Audio" DIN plug.

Quoteas your blurry pics suggest.
My muscles won't allow me to keep things steady. I need a holder to make proper pictures; my apologies.

Thanks for sharing that. I'll try looking for that name.

The two sets of names I've come across for them are:
Offset and circular.
270 degree and 360 degree.

The offset and circular names appear to be more popular however.

Does anyone have a spare one lying around for a small price and compensation of postage?

My usual supplier can't get it for me.
