Using SNES with X2RGB Plus

I recently picked up an X2RGB works great, but I am having one problem with it. I also picked up this RGB SCART Cable but it doesn't seem to work at all with my SNES (NTSC). I'm not sure if it's just a bad cable, or maybe just not compatible with my SNES? I have the GAME IN setting on RGB, but when I turn the on the SNES, I just get red and green horizontal bars slowly rolling down the screen and I don't get any audio. I know the GAME IN port on the x2rgb works, because if I hook up the SCART cable adaptor that came with it and hook up a component source to it, it works fine.

One other thing, is the x2rgb supposed to have VGA pass-thru? How do you get it to switch to the VGA source (PC IN).

That's a SCART cable, it uses a different pinout than a Japanese RGB cable.  They're not compatible.

You ought to be able to rewire inside the SCART end though? In the back of the x2rgb manual it has the pinouts. I'm wondering does the japanese RGB cable need the 220uf caps on the R,G, and B lines?

I rewired it and it works great now :) The picture quailty difference between s-video and RGB is amazing, especially with such low-res graphics.

Very easy procedure, just look at the SNES AV pinout and the GAME IN pinout in x2rgb manual. Note that you do not the capacitors (if present) in there. Also, composite sync had no connection on the SNES side on my particular cable, so unforunatly I had to force that end open in order to connect it using an unused line like composite video.

Whoops, forgot to log in :/ Anyways I forgot to ask about how to get VGA pass-thru to work. It appears in the manual like it has something to do with the TERM (terminal?) option, but I had no luck with it.

The XRGB2+ will be happy with composite video, there was probably no need to get C-Sync instead.

VGA pass-thru always worked for me, I didn't have to do anything to en/disable it.  Sorry...

when it is turned off the vga will pass through.
i use my xrgb2 plus on my HD dlp samsung tv. i run my dreamcast vga box to the vga pass through.
i think there is an option to have the unit auto sense an input and turn on to the port composite, s-video, ,component or rgb.... that can mess with you when trying to make sure it is off..
i run my neo-geo, genesis, duo , super grafx, and super gun, to the rgb input.
i run my nes to the composite, i run the snes,n64, saturn, dreamcast, 3do, cdi, and jag/jagcd, to the s-video input.
then i run my xbox, ps2 and gamecube to the component input. ps2 games look so much better now sharper and more vivid. it helps a lot with ps2 cuz most games are not progressive scan, unlike gamecube or xbox.

each of those sources except the rgb video have a selector box to use the tv native inputs or reroute every thing to the xrgb2 then back to the vga port on the tv.
this is needed mainly for the progressive scan games on the next gen systems and for the few systems that look worse.


jag, cdi, and 3do look bad going to the xrgb2.
the n64, snes,dreamcast(non vga games) and saturn look good. its odd how they are all using the svideo.
but the systems that look bad get some color bleeding/ghosting when used.

the xrgb is great on the hd tv it will get rid of the lag that a lot of HD tv create when up scanning interlaced video. the xrgb2 plus does the up scanning with no lag.
