today i got the most gigantic mofo oldskool wooden rear projection tv from hard rubbish (people chuck their old junk out by the road outside their house and if nobody takes it, the council does on a designated day), it doesnt work atm, but it's a vsync problem for the most part. anyway, it has d-sub ttl rgb input, which suprises me 'cos i'd have expected analogue. but anyway, can i actually use this input at all? is there some kind of analogue to ttl converter i could buy/build for a relatively low price? or even a composite/svideo to ttl converter?(would need pal and ntsc 50 and 60) i dont think the av inputs on the thing work.. at least, the button to switch to av doesnt seem to. i understand why they chucked it out, but it'd be an awesome anciant relic if i could get it going:P

Oh wow dude, nice find! Is the screen in good condition? From what I understand those connectors often will take both forms of rgb... you can give that a shot of course.
forgive my broked english, for I am an AMERICAN

i did try it with a master system and all i got was a flicker when i switched it on, nothing more.. but then that could be cos it has a different pinout to my commodore monitor. the cable was designed for that.

the tv workes enough to tell what's going on on most of the screen.. but it's way too horrible to actually use atm

there is one scratch on the inside of the screen which has caused an area about 3" by half an inch to go white on the outside.. maybe burned in image of the scratch.. i dunno.. anyway, i dont think it's bother me too much, the picture shows through it for the most part.

viletim!

Forget about the digital input (is it actualy marked 'digital video'? strange...) if you want more than 16 colours. If a 9 pin sub d then the pinout should be the same as a CGA video card. Concentrate on getting the analog input active.

Do you get a picture from the tuner? how's the convergence?

If you intend to fix it up then you may need to replace the coolant around the picture tubes. Sometimes there's a load of bacteria growing in it.

i didnt see any kind of coolant, all i saw were three normal looking crt tubes with chunky lenses on the ends. but if it's there, it's probably destroyed anyway.

ok, i just went and tested it a bit more.. the AV inputs are working again now for no good reason at all, but i dont get any image on the screen, i get a bunch of jumpy horizontal lines within a few inches of space in the top third of the screen.. like vertical is completely gone. i put an aerial on it, and i get the same results there, sound works, so the tuner is fine, sound also works through the av ports.. funny thing is, the things like volume levels and channel numbers are still there, theyre pretty messed up, but theyre there, and i've seen those messed up by static before on other tv's.. so maybe theres a problem with it somewhere between the inputs (tuner, av etc) and the processing.. like, before it hits whatever bios type thing it has or something.. im still betting on a dead capacitor for the video.. but theres a hundred billion caps in the thing to choose from..

NEC gave me a number to call, but im afraid of the fee's.. i cant deliver it to them at all really.. too freaking huge.
