Any difference between 68000 10 Mhz/16 Mhz?

Hi there,
I'm new here and I'm looking for an X68000. Now, the question for you is simple: in terms of fluidity (playing a game) is the X68000 16 Mhz (XVI) the same thing if compared to a 10 Mhz X68000 (Ace or Super)? Is there some game wich benefit of the faster clock?

Most games are the same, indeed most games require that you run them at 10MHz, so you'd have to switch down to the lower speed.

The games which benefit from 16MHz are:
Mahou Daisakusen
Super Street Fighter II (also needs 4MB)
Viewpoint
F-15 Strike Eagle II
Star Wars: Attack on the Death Star

and probably a few more.

Does Viewpoint actually benefit?  I should try that.  I was disappointed when I played it first, 'cause it was so much choppier than the FM Towns version.

Well, it does benefit, but it's STILL choppy if you can believe it. Major disappointment. I'll try it again now to remind myself.

Just tried it now, it's hard to see even if there is any benefit at all, I think there is slightly less slowdown, but you'd probably have to run it on two machines side by side. Also, I can't get it to run from hard disk, I keep getting a bus error or something. Maybe to do with the FLOAT.X version I'm running.

I'll try it on an emulator running at 25MHz now, to see how that is.

Ok, I tried that, at a higher speed it runs ok, but I don't know how it is on a real 68030.

I went through all of my games today, testing them at 16MHz to see what would happen.

These games ran better at 16MHz. With some, like Populous etc. it's hard to tell if they're much better overall, but generally the graphics move slightly faster.

Thanky you very much guys for your reply. Now, I read that some games like Twin Bee have problems when runs on 16 Mhz. Switching them on 10 Mhz are those problems disappearing? And, how to switch down from 16 to 10?

Switching between 10 and 16MHz is as easy as flicking a switch on the top of the X68000 XVI.  I recommend that model myself.  I just recently received one from Yahoo! Japan and it is wonderful. Good luck on your quest for one!
