Title: PC-9801UX stopped detecting the floppy drives!
Post by: RobIvy64 on October 08, 2021, 03:56:04 AM
I recently imported this machine and installed two Gotek floppy drive emulators in line with a VFO adapter (ahh NEC...). Everything was working great! Today, I power it up as normal and it quickly moves to the BASIC "How many files?" prompt after the memory check. Nothing has changed since it was last working. Any idea what could be happening?

Not having any luck with the original mechanical drives either.

OK, I figured it out after extensive troubleshooting.... a very small piece of the case cover ground shielding popped loose and slid under the logic board, presumably shorting a component near the FDD controller. Very fortunate it didn't nuke a chip.  Removed and It has been working fine since!
