Title: PicoPSU adapter for the Sharp X68000 PRO
Post by: gameblabla on June 08, 2021, 08:00:55 AM
Hello guys,
i just received both my Sharp X1 Turbo and my Sharp X68000 Pro that i bought through Zenmarket and i'm quite happy with the condition they arrived. (as expected)
However, i neglected to buy the ATX adapter for my X68k and now i regret it not doing it earlier as they are now out of stock on Aranet :
https://www.arananet.net/pedidos/product/atx-adapter-for-x68000/ (https://www.arananet.net/pedidos/product/atx-adapter-for-x68000/)

Any other solutions ?
I've been told that this one :
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/334020042234 (https://www.ebay.fr/itm/334020042234)
... is too big for the PRO and won't fit.

I don't want to try to power it on with the original power supply as i'm not really trusting it and they are known to cause issues (as i saw here in too many threads) and i would prefer not to hear a fan spinning if possible.

I have the same one in my PRO. It works fine

My PRO's PSU is rectangular, so the "tetris piece" PSU boards from the X68000 OG/ACE/etc did not fit:

My best guess is that maybe some of the PROs have had other X68000 PSUs grafted into them in Japan to keep them alive? Or it was a revision that isn't documented. Either way, you should check what shape your PSU is in before ordering any board.

I ended up developing a new PCB with a similar design that fit into my case, but it needs a small bodge to get working because I put a pull-up in the wrong place. It's pretty much an exact copy of the mattsoft board except that I use the extra space to also accept 4" x 2" 12v supplies if you have one.

I only just got it to run for the first time last night, and I still have to clean and repair the floppy drives, so I haven't done extensive testing, but the computer does seem to boot, soft-turn-on, and soft-shut-down.

I'll put it on PCBWay or something when I've fixed the problem, but I also have four spares, if you're willing to do the bodge and test it out for me.
