Title: Keyboard maintenance
Post by: spud on October 05, 2019, 11:45:17 PM
Got a keyboard from Yahoo japan. In relatively good shape! All lights work, most keys as well. Apparently around the keypad area is some dirt (dried fluid I think).

Is there a way to separate the black key switches mount from the brown/green pcb? I'd like to clean the area where the switches touch the pcb.

Thanks. Maybe I'll post some photos of the dirt later.

Isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush. Scrub until clean!

Yes, I did that. The board became very sticky when applying the IPA, so it required quite some cleaning. Stains are gone now. Haven't got time yet to test whether it fixed the problems.

Some people will cringe, but when I get a really dirty (sticky) keyboard, it goes into the sink with warm water and car shampoo. Let is soak, then scrub with a brush. Rinse well, then dry thoroughly. Always does the trick.

You can also soak in an IPA bath overnight
