Title: Floppy Disk Preservation: Jouyou X68000
Post by: Artemio on November 21, 2018, 07:31:08 AM
Hello, I want to share with you a project we've been working on that you might find interesting.

While dumping from out personal collections, we've found that there are a variations on original media that are not documented. We believe creating and sharing this information about the software for a platform we love is a valuable task for the community.

Since we are running against the clock in order to document as much as possible, we decided to make public our current progress and hope some of you are interested in helping out.

Detailed information is in the site sections. Here is a brief overview of it. If you can help us, please contact us or help spread the site and this message.

Our goal is to create a database of hashes that can be used to classify floppy disk images for the X68000. We publish hashes, not any material copyrighted by others.

We create low level flux images using specialized hardware from the original floppies that are used to create verified good high-level formats (like XDF).

Hashes can then be used with auditing programs in order to verify disk images against our cured database. By comparing and matching a dump to the database, the user and community can have a high degree of confidence that the image is as close to the original as possible.

You can read about our naming conventions under the appropriate section of our site.
