Title: 68030 Compatibility
Post by: RobIvy64 on February 03, 2015, 09:51:37 AM
So I was lucky enough to pick up a Xellent30s 68030 accelerator for my X68000 Super. The additional speed is pretty awesome, but I have noticed some of these compatibility issues I have read about.

I've noticed the incompatible games either have no sound or incorrect sound, or bus errors. Is this in line with a real X68030 machine?

Fortunately, the Xellent30 allows you to select which CPU you want to use at bootup if you hold XF1.

what games have errors? I can try them on my 030 I never ran into anything that didn't run unless it was using 2hdboot to launch

Can you play Final Fight on your  X68030? It won't work for me.
Another I can remember is Rally X.

there is a patch that must be applied to Final Fight to run. I have patched it on my HDD image its just a modified .X launcher
also Strider has a patch

I'll try Rally X I never tried it.

here was my thread a few years ago on it http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4995.msg32724#msg32724 (http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4995.msg32724#msg32724)

2HDboot games work fine. Final Fight does not.

I havent installed any patches yet. I'll give it a try.

Mahou and Nemesis 90 are ready for 030 and are two of my prefs  :D

Mahou still runs like crap on my 030. I'm looking into running the 68030 from the bus clock (40 MHz) instead of the doubled 10 MHz CPU clock.

Maybe be RAM ?,in my PRO 6mb 15mhzOC works nice, not perfect but really nice.
I always thought that a 030 would be Perfect  :-\
other game for 030 is geograph seal,
games like Dragon spirit,Granada, for example have issues in XVI mode...i suppose don't work or have more issues on 030.

I can test pretty much everything ever in emulation at this point. Lemme know if you need any specific tests done.

So I attempted to install some of the Konami patches for 030 compatibility. They don't work on my system!

I can only speculate that the patches are strictly for the X68030 and not just the CPU itself. Some of the games and software that others report as not working on an X68030 (like 2HD boot)  will run on my system.

I'm glad this thing lets me select the 68000 CPU for compatibility.

I have an Xellent30s, and i have have not found a single practical use for it. Akumajou Dracula runs SLOWER in 030 mode. Have you found it useful at al RobIvy?

Yup, that's a Bus error. I'm guessing it doesn't like being overclocked that much? Try 14 mhz and see how it works.

Hmmmm... I got graphical glitches and slowdown when i tried to run illumination laser on my Expert with an Xellent30s... Did you change anything from the install on the V4 image?

What driver are you using? Do you have anything in your I/O slots?
Lastly, what are the DIP switch settings on your Xellent30s

Sorry for all the questions, i'm just really bummed that i can't use my accelerator for anything.

Mahou is one of the games that only works properly if run directly from the command prompt.  If you are running it via LHES, you will have problems.  Though if using floppies this shouldn't be an issue.
