Title: Neo Geo CD
Post by: johnpierce on November 17, 2014, 12:35:48 AM
The laser assembly makes some rather noticeable clicking noise when trying to read CD's. When powered on it will read the disc and boot to the game loading screen, around 80% through the unit starts clicking and I can hear the disc spin down and back up again. Usually at this point either an error code 0001 or 0002 will be displayed.

Audio CD's play to a certain degree, I've only been able to get 40 seconds or so into any given track before it will start clicking and stop playing. When skipping tracks the unit begins to click and the disc stops spinning.

Ive never had this type of problem with any other CD based console, im guessing somthing is preventing the laser piece from moving down the guide rails or that its the lens itself moving up and then dropping down (thus the clicking).

Any help or insight to this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks.

 Hi Johnpierce !

Take off the top cover of the console and try reading a CD while you can see what it is doing. Sometimes the grease on laser assembly guide rails hardens and prevents the carriage from freely moving. Clean off the old grease with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol until no dirt is coming off. Then relubricate it with silicone oil. Make sure that the spindle spins freely and laser assembly carriage moves freely. If that does not help, the problem could be linked to worn out laser (very likely), or bad capacitors.

Keep the scene alive !
