Yes, sadly I don't have the needed budget.I only hope  that the winner will dump these rare games (highly unlikely though..).

I sent a message to the seller and he replied he can't sell me only Illumination Laser since there are already bids on the auction.I ask him if you can make a disk image al least (I will pay him for this service if he wants), let's see what happens.

I'd like to make it an official forum rule that we don't criticize other people for having different uses for their own property than what we might prefer.  If someone else has something you desperately want and doesn't give it to you, that's your problem, not theirs.

I've had people scream at me for RGB modding my HiSaturn Navi.  I've had people off-the-rails upset because I didn't try to salvage one rare piece of hardware or another when my collection was flooded.  None of us have a legitimate claim over someone else's stuff, and what they do with it and who they do it with is entirely up to them.

If we want to discuss this, we can start a thread about it, but as far as anyone's copy of Illumination Laser, or any other rare undumped treasure is concerned, we can ask them, and we can be happy in our own lives that these treasures exist.

But that's all we can do on these forums.

I agree. As Kendrick said earlier, all private and disagreeing matters should be discussed through PM's.

Normally I wouldn't respond to such an awful thread as this, but due to the huge amount of fail, I will actually respond.  One ignorant poster posts some bullshit about me, and then some random n00b joins the attack without even any proof.  FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL.  This is exactly why I don't post here anymore.   This community is AWFUL.

First of all, I have released many games, I see the new V4 image is out, and guess what, Overdriver, Gradius Arcade, Cynthia V2 all came from me!  All purchased with my own money, and all released to you for nothing.  I also bought Direct-X with my own money and released it for free as well!  BlueBMW warned me that my original archive contained malware (added by the free host I used), hence I deleted it, and now the game is freely available anyway via early downloaders, so I dont bother to host it myself anymore.

So needless to say I've done quite a bit more for this ''community'' then the people attacking me here ever will.

Currently there are a few doujins I have that are not public, but guess what, all of them are STILL FOR SALE BY THEIR ORIGINAL CREATORS.  Yes they are still for sale to this day.  Sorry but I'm not gonna be the asshole who releases games publicly when their authors are still willing to sell them.

I've heard through the grapevine that I'm being accused of hoarding Y2.  This is proof of how much stupid bullshit speculation exists here.  Y2 does not work because the game is copy protected, it has never been properly hacked, I can play it because I was lucky enough to find an original copy.  That is the only reason it works for me.  No original disk, you can't play it.  Don't believe me?  There's a whole freaking thread for how to play it via emulator on Tokugawa.

Yes my personal HDD image is no longer public,  but the last time I released one I was accused of thievery even though I gave as much credit as I could and only used freely available stuff.  Releasing a publicly friendly image is also a pain.  I would have to delete the stuff I can't release, etc.  So no I no longer release my personal image freely, but hey I built it myself, just because you own a system doesn't mean you have a right to my personal works.

The sense of entitlement in this thread is simply off the scale.  Jealousy and ignorance have ruined this forum for me.  I only came back as a good old friend pointed it out to me.  At first it was just another fun lol, but the hate filled bandwagon that has started to build here is simply uncalled for.

It's only up to him.I sent him  all the instructions on how dump his disk before to give  it away to who knows who and loose it forever.I think he is perfectly able to launch MKIMG.X and save the resulting image.Let's wait and see.

Was watching some D-Day event on TV. Seeing the remaining veterans tears in their eyes, theses guys who saved Europe from... Well you know history.

Puts some perspective to whiny, angry comments about SuperDeadite.

Anyway, my opinion, the guy has always been good advices and nice replies.
The guy does the hell he wants. Plus i support his position about not releasing games that are still on sale, abandonware is a thing, spreading products that probably a few copies are sold... Well, that's not just sharing a copy.
Plus i didn't know this community was so large, we could afford to be divided. Especially feud between people who brought so much for the mere non-Japanese mortal users. Get rid of me instead, i'm useless ^^

That said, i'll go to bed having a thought for the brave men and women that fought to get rid of that Adolf son a bitch.

Sadly the seller replied me that he can't dump the disk since the monitor is broken and he has no way of displaying the output of this X68000.So, I'd say, game over..
The only (small) hope is that the auction winner is a kind soul and will provide the dump to the community.

P.S.
He said also that they are looking for a disk image too but can't find anywhere.

Well, lets wait and get the disk image in hand first.  Keep in mind also there is a lot of excellent hardware in that lot too.  Between some of the ram boards and that complete XVI system there might be a lot of the purchase price already.

Once everything is in hand we will see.

I really dont know yet.  The retail software is duplicates for me so those will need a home.  Im sure some of the hardwarebits will be extra.  Ill be checking with the people who helped me to see of there are specific things they want.  For the most part I think everyone just wanted dumps of whatever isnt available already like IL.

Hey, there's an XSimmVI in there. Those need to be cloned very, very, very badly as the circuit is damn near braindead simple but the boards are stupidly rare and hilariously expensive.

I think the tricky part would be finding the unique internal connectors that the XVI's dedicated slot uses.

Hey bluebmw!

Its been a while!

Well, I have bad news, and good news.

I was sent by the creator of Illumination Laser due to the fact he does NOT want the version you got bootlegged.
He was very sincere. He just does not want that particular version available to the public.

If you remember what I said a while ago? well, we have been working on this for years now...

I would really appreciate it if you could respect the creators wishes?

I know I have spoke with some x68k enthusiasts who just said "who cares? fuck them, release it"

and that is why there are games that americans never get a chance to play...
We have been working on this for so long... If this bootleg copy gets out to the public. It might squander all the work we have been doing...

Thank you for your understanding and please try to be patient in this instance.

I suppose the cats out the bag!

The creator told me he wants to release Illumination laser OFFICIALLY on NFG...
With a super secret background story/interview/ & guide for the secrets in the game...
This version is being x68kmodel/stage tested as I type this.

I am sorry about all this.

Its just that we have been putting in so much work for this to be official...
& the creator requested that this bootleg release be stopped.

He has done so much. Really he deserves all the credit for doing what hes doing... I am merely a messenger.
He is doing this for the entire community for free of charge. Just please dont bootleg his preliminary revision game.

I would really appreciate it if you respected the consent of the creator and were patient for a little bit longer.
Also... Through the version we are working on?
More people can play it on the real machine compared to the older version...

Thanks again for your patience and understanding in such a strange time...

How it could culminate twice at the same time is amazing.... I have an idea about who you bought that from also... but thats a whole different fucking story... but that copy was stolen... anyway...

Please contact me so we can talk about this.

I got a broken XVI with a XsimmVI... I payed 240.00 for the whole thing? or 200.00? yeahh.
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: sharp on June 10, 2014, 09:06:33 AM
(the person did not know there was an XsimmVI in there Im guessing. )

also, in case any disbelief has occurred... really not joking. totally honest...

I dont think robivy64 believed me back when I told him I was in contact with the creator...

Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: NFG on June 10, 2014, 09:51:27 AM
I don't think we need to be dicks about this and question anyone's motives or actions.  If there's a legitimate chance the original author prefers to keep his release un-dumped I think we can honour that desire.

At the very least, it won't be released here.    I've always had an anti-piracy stance on these forums, even if I'm turning a blind eye to the X68k because I love it so much (and I've seen first-hand what anti-piracy zealots did to Atari ST software - much of it's just gone).  We're not going to become a forum with a reputation around the world for being assholes.  =)
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: sharp on June 10, 2014, 09:51:19 AM
Why do you think he rebuilt this game due to lack of original code? Due to it being stolen in some deep organizational fuckery?  (laughs) ::)
He put in all this work for over a year for you and everyone else interested in this game. He has a real job... Hes doing it for the love and for the real fans... He got his x68k from his fucking parents house to do this... after 10+ years of it sitting in a closet...

supporting bootlegging an inadequate revision, according to the creator himself, would make you seem like an unreal fan... a cowardice fan. a thief.

I speak english. He does not. I am 1 of the people who made this happen a long time ago, by constant pursuit.
As well as trap15, and robivy64 who brought my attention to its existence. I have been working with the creator TERRA, so he asked if I could help him inform the community. If you were present when I visited the x68k irc chat room? I told everyone I was planning a public release if I was allowed by the creator. He told me last night he wanted to publicly release it here.

The release we have is able to run on multiple systems, the release in that auction only runs on x68030.
+ whatever other bonus additions that were made. (i have been informed on 1 added in stage 6, and stage 8)

If this is bootlegged, that would be a betrayal of years of hard work and passion for people who never deserved it.

Of course, I believe that everyone can understand what Im saying. I dont believe that anyone here is undeserving...

It is ridiculous though to even act like there is deception going on here... If only you knew the whole story...

I even posted a picture of the testing version running on my monitor...

It is not my job to question the creator of illumination laser, it is none of my business why he feels the way he does. I just know he does NOT want the version obtained in that auction to be shared.

& I know he is a great person who is honest and honorable.

I hope I can say the same for the entirety here on NFG.
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?

Well things certainly have become interesting...

I have no desire to go against the wishes of the games creator.  If he/she is willing to release it to us at some point for a modest price then Im all for that situation.

In the mean time I will hold onto this copy from this auction until we hear more from the games developer. I know everyone is/was excited to finally get to play this one but I think we had best be patient and honor the developers wishes.  Our x68000 community is too small to alienate anyone.

Thanks for the info sharp.

Sharp, unfortunately you are not the first person to claim that they "know the developer", then disappear. You have to understand why people would initially be skeptical. I believe what you are saying is sincere.

I hope the developer of this game is flattered by the overwhelming desire to have this game available to the X68000 community. It looks like a fantastic game, with an incredible soundtrack. If he decided to sell the game, I would be the first in line to buy a copy.

I really REALLY hope he can put the finishing touches on the game and release it soon :).

Post by: wildo2ne on June 10, 2014, 02:33:12 PM
I can understand the wishes of the author and the idea of anti piracy here. That being said I would have to say that at some point most if not all software for the X68 would have to fall into abandonware, now who decides the time frame and who decides what qualifies I cannot say but in the meantime I agree that it would be the right thing to do to honor the developers wishes.

I got the game to run just fine off of a hard drive on an XVI unit.  I couldnt get a disk to write properly with the image provided though...  I tried converting the .dim to .xdf but got an error stating it couldnt be done.  I tried writing the .dim directly with disk image 1.3b but the system still will just reject the disk.  Im trying to write it on a 3.5" floppy for use on an x68030 compact unit.

BlueBMW,

Illumination Laser uses 9 sector driver which allows using density of 1.4MB instead of standard 1.2MB and that makes it incompatible with software which only work with standard 1.2MB images. You can see a message "9SCIPL" when booting from the floppy. First it reads the driver from boot sector and then makes the extended format available. The game is too big for standard format but surely can be duplicated. It is possible to make it a two floppy game but I think that could be against the authors wish. Tutorial coming soon.

Right, you can also use the 9CSDRV driver to access tothe contents of the disk.
Anyway, I've just converted the original .DIM into two 1.2MB .XDF disk images so, if the author will give me the OK, I can release this two floppy version of Illumination Laser.

 Hi Guys !

I present to you a simple way of how to transfer Illumination Laser to X68000 systems which do not have a hard drive.

Download the Floppy Mastering kit from here:
http://nfggames.com/X68000/Games/IlluminationLaser/IL_Floppy_Mastering_from_FDD.zip (http://nfggames.com/X68000/Games/IlluminationLaser/IL_Floppy_Mastering_from_FDD.zip)

It is a regular 2HD XDF file which can be written to floppy disk with well known tried and tested methods. It will format a floppy disk in drive 1 to 2HS, install 9SCIPL into the formatted floppy's boot block and unpack the game files.

 8) Here it goes.

First of all

THANK YOU TERRA, he is the man who made this game, and did so much work for everyone...

Thank you to the few that thanked me.

I dedicate my efforts in this archeological-esque expedition to all the people no longer on this planet.
As well as all the people who were taken out of the game, this 1 is for you MJClark.
& For the people I miss.

I have to thank the following:
TERRA!!!!!!! Nagai! pipixvi! Markun! dy_mp! IC_KAZE!!!! Trap15! Robivy64! AKRATEN! Everyone here! & everybody else I did not mention.

Now I will attempt to recollect the past years of efforts involved with tracking this down and getting it out there.

It all started when I spoke with AKRATEN and he acted like x68000 were the best. They were mythical, I had never even seen 1 before in person.
That led me to emulation, that helped me learn a good bit about x68k.
Then I found out about undumped games. I noticed a thread started by Robivy64 a good while ago mentioning IlluminationLASER.

I tried to find it, but only could find the composers website (IC-KAZE).

I emailed him in 2012...

Never got a response.

NOW, inbetween that time, I got money, and was able to afford a real x68k. bluebmw and lydux helped me so much. this opened many doors for me, & I have to say lydux and bluebmw are great people.

I made a twitter early 2013, and started getting into contact with as many people in the x68k scene in the motherland as I could...

made some really real connections with great magnificent people in nippon.

Through this series of connections, I was guided through unbelievable social paths, contacting another, to be directed to another! etc.

I was directed to the creator after speaking with 15+ people in the scene, like social pong.

He informed me that he got his x68000 from his parents house and his PSU was dead after so many years.
I tried to help him get it repaired by a local there.

Then silence... It seemed unlikely at this point...

Despite the silence and lack of information, I continued the pursuit.

This went on all 2013, & I devoted the better part of 2013 to finding IlluminationLASER. everyday I thought about it. & I would often mention it on twitter daily, or nearly... I am sorry for the local greats in japan that I annoyed with that... (laughs)

When Christmas came in 2013, I mentioned it fleetingly, but then a incredibly gorgeous young girl came into my life.
So I was not thinking about games at all from december until a few months ago...

A few months ago, I finally got the email back.

If you do something for the better of the entirety, it will succeed.

If someone told me I would have done this back when I joined the shmups forum? I would have said they were lying... but I really did manage to accomplish all of this from nothing.
Just thanks to the people that shined light on this masterpiece, & of course the creator of the masterpiece, and everyone inbetween.

I did not get any money for this... I did this out of the love for the community, and for the love of the greatest truths soon to be found.

The series of contact went like this over the years.

akraten
robivy64
trap15
nagai
aoi68k
ic_kaze
dy_mp
markun
pipixvi
TERRA

NOW...

About that interview, my great friend TERRA was rushed while I was sleeping. Therefore he released it himself.
He was scheduled to release it at a retro computer festival a few hours later, so he just posted it.

I still intend to interview my great friend if he is willing, which I am almost sure he will be!

Lets do something fun, an interactive interview with the community,

post your questions in private message to me, & I will return with the answers!

NOW

if anybody finds any bugs or glitches, send me a private message with the details.
there potentially could be a revision if there is a bug.

What a great story! The story of how this game saw a release is as entertaining as the game itself! I'm glad I could play a part in it :). Your hard work and dedication to finding this treasure is much appreciated. I hope Terra can enjoy seeing so many gamers enjoy his work.

I don't know ANY Japanese, so all I could do was keep bumping threads and sharing the game with people.

As for bugs or changes to the game:

One thing I did change that seemed to help balance out the audio, was add "-BGM_VOL4" to the I.X command. The sound effects seem to be quite a bit louder than the music, and adding this setting creates the perfect balance. I love the music, so I wanted to be able to hear more of it :)

Thanks to RobIvy64, I got a chance to see this in person and play a quick round today. I can safely say that this release will make the interest in ram expansions go up with people wanting to play it!

I'm sure there's no way to do it, but if it could run on even a 2mb machine, that would open it up to more folks to enjoy. Regardless of how it goes, it's still an amazing release!

Super great news. Thanks so much to everyone involved. We have a lovely community here, I don't care what anyone thinks :) It's pretty sweet to finally get the original MCDRV versions of the music. They're ever so slightly different the the MXDRV converted version on the Music HDD.

For anyone interested, I am using MCDRV and PCM8 that are on the music hard disk. Just run MCDRV instead of MXW. If MXW is already running, try 'mxw -r' to unload the memory resident driver. Then MCDRV should work. This works in MMDSP just like MXW.

Thanks robivy64! Good to know!

The intricacies involved were hard to believe... Its hard to describe, but each interaction took a while, sometimes taking months between people. The whole time, not being informed anything definite. It truly seemed impossible, and I did not think it would happen...

Also, let me mention this, because so many details went into play during this.

Trap15 spoke with nagai previously about IlluminationLASER, about a year before I did.

I also am sure they saw the threads, so thank you robivy64 and everyone else that was curious.

TERRA has agreed to do the interview under certain conditions!  ;D
I have received great questions so far! Thanks everyone!
More people should send a question, or multiple!
The more questions the merrier.
I would like to get as many involved as possible!

To answer the questions of purchasing physical copies from TERRA? It will not happen.
He is adamantly against that. Mainly for respect.
The differences between IlluminationLASER "final" and "rebuild" are truly non existent.
Same exact code, LIGHTSPEC is just reworked for use on machines less than 030.
If you want the original in full glory? Just use ORIGINALSPEC, if you can handle it.
ORIGINALSPEC is unaltered entirely. The only difference being what is written beneath the name of the game & end credits...
Please understand, he did not have to do any of this. It would not have been released if certain actions had not been taken...
It had been 10 years since he worked with the x68k. When I asked him if I could buy a copy (I offered a LOT of yen) He conscientiously decided to have fun, dust off his x68k, and try to improve his previous creation.
He worked on it for a year in spare time...
He then decided to release it for free. He had a chance to get tons of yen then, but never even mentioned the yen when we were working together...
He did this out of generosity and love and whatever other reasoning might have been involved.
Please dont disrespect his generosity and great work. TERRA is a great person, and I want to thank him again.
I also want to mention how much of an honor and privilege it is to be able to say I worked with TERRA, and so many others.

You already have what you want, for free.  ;D  8)

Terra hopes you all will understand. Im sure anyone with any sense can.
This is his gift to you. He does not want money for this, and it is pointless to sell it when it is free.99.
Please enjoy.

EDIT: pertaining to the above "lack of original code" I was mistaken, that robbery was uninvolved with TERRAs reasoning behind his work. He still had the source code. Just wanted to polish his jewel.

Thanks everyone, it is indeed an otherworldly piece of interactive art... I really think it is my favorite stg ever, and I have played hundreds... Man does it get hard on a slowdown inducing level on the later stages too. If its running full speed it is for the most hardened stg veteran.

Again, thanks everyone, it is great to know people are having fun.

Gah! I bought a RAM board to help me be able to play this and still no luck. :o What does the attached message mean?

This is on a Super with a BasicHouse 2 mb ram board that I have upgraded to 4mb. It's passing tests in Memtest68k right now, so I *think* my soldering work is ok.

It does have a co-processor installed as well, but I've tried it with float2 and float3 with no change. I've copied the HD version to a fresh copy of the Eidis v4 image and created a !Start.bat from the auto exec that came with the game (basically, added a subst and removed the call to float2).

Any advice would be much appreciated! I'm able to run other games in the Games3 directory, so I think at least the base 2mb + 2mb on the BasicHouse is working as expected. Thought that was enough for IL as well, but maybe that wasn't my issue after all.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have set the amount of RAM in switch.x after installing the RAM board and it's stored as it should be.

 Hi 98pacecar !

The error might say "can not open Object\TMP00.SP".

I have noticed in your picture that you have 327680 Byte XSP and 0 Byte FRM. The IL on my setup shows 981376 XSP and 43872 FRM. How much free memory does LHES show in the upper right corner ?

Here are the config files which I used:

Config.sys
FILES     = 30
BUFFERS   = 20 1024
LASTDRIVE = Z:
USKCG     = \SYS\USKCG.SYS
DEVICE    = \SYS\FLOAT2.X
REM DEVICE    = \SYS\WINDRV.SYS

Autoexec.bat
ECHO OFF
PATH A:\;A:\SYS;A:\BIN;A:\BASIC2;A:\ETC;A:\FILER\LHES
HIOCS.X
rem DCACHE2 A: -M512
LHES
HIOCS.X /R
IF EXIST !Start.bat !Start.bat

!Start.bat
float2.x
mcdrv -B64
I.x -NO_REC_REPLAY
mcdrv -r

Worked fine on 4MB machine.

That error refers to the fact  he has no sufficient memory to load the games files.I had the same issue me too due   the expansion slot module was not inserted well (I have a 4MB expansion card).I could set 6MB ram in switch but LHES showed me always 2MB.I solved by reseating the I/O expansion module.
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: 98pacecar on July 08, 2014, 11:58:06 PM
I had a minute to do a quick check on this:

LHES shows 5491 kbytes free.
My config and autoexec are exactly as posted above.
I edited my !Start.bat to load float2.x as posted above, even though it's also loaded in my config.sys.
Pulled the card out and switched slots.

Still no luck. Looks like I'm getting the same values for the XSP and FRM along with the error about tmp00.sp.

Hold on a minute, the yen symbol in the error message is a slash denoting that 'Object' is a directory, correct? If so, I may know what's going on. I think when I un-lzh'ed the archive, I must have done it wrong as I found the tmp00.sp file in the root directory of the install. I bet I didn't tell it to use subdirectories properly or something.  I'll retest it when I get home tonight.
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: 98pacecar on July 09, 2014, 10:46:12 AM
Ok, I tested my theory and it was the issue. When I un-lzh'ed the file, it didn't keep the subdirectories (e instead of x in the command). Once I did that, it fired up just fine!

I also believe that the XSP and FRM line is telling us how much it has loaded, not how much is required.

Just an aside... I sold a basic house board to someone on here... It had half of the ram chip spaces populated so I assumed it was a 2mb board... The new owner went to add more ram to it and discovered that in fact it was a 4mb boardand by adding another set of chips he then had an 8mb board.  Might be worth checking the specs of the ram chips to see if you dont have more than you think.
Title: Re: Illumination Laser found?
Post by: 98pacecar on July 09, 2014, 01:50:47 PM
Thanks of the heads up! Mine had just 4 chips populated with 1x4 when I got it, so it was a 2mb board. Seems like it could be ordered with as little or as much ram as the user wanted. I've seen it in 2 and 4 mb using 1x4 chips and have read that some had 1x256 chips for a max of 4mb, but haven't seen pics of one yet.

Kind of a strange board, but after adding some sockets and caps with some old zip ram from my Amiga 3000, I am up to 4mb with another 4mb on the way. I think 8mb will serve me nicely!

Speaking of bumping old threads!  I am trying to get Illumination Laser working in a libretro px68 emulator and having some issues. When I use IL_BOOT.dim or the dim in the rebuild tosec set (Illumination Laser Rebuild (2000)(Myou Game)[4MB, X68030] ) the game loads but the music doesnt play and I dont see as many sprites as I see in youtube videos. I see the hdf file that matches is like 10MB. Am I some how loading up the game without all its data?  When I just load the hdf file even though the emulator says it supports this extension, it just boots to a screen with a hand holding a floppy drive. Any advice for getting the dim or some xdf version to work would be super duper appreciated!!
