Title: How do you tell what revision your nes is?

I read somewhere that depending what revision your nes is will affect the jailbars when you rgb mod the system. My question is....how on earth do you find out what revision nes you have? It says "copyright 1987" on most nes pcbs. Did they change the year for newer revisions?
