Title: no sound one ONE NES game
Post by: blackevilweredragon on September 01, 2006, 01:10:20 AM
This is so weird, i'm completely baffled...

I have one cartridge, The Legend of Zelda, which just produces no sound at all.  I put the game in, connect to TV via Composite, and there is no sound at all..  Even by RF connection, no sound, just dead silence..  If I put in any other cartridge, I have sound, perfectly...

So, feeling adventurous, I took apart the NES, trying to figure out what was going on..  So I soldered connections to the sound pins on the chip inside the NES, and guess what, there IS sound playing on Zelda..  but why not through the composite port when playing this game?

This makes NO sense at all..  Am I missing something to check?

Is the cartridge dirty/oxydated?

no, contacts are perfectly clean..

but remember, if I connect the composite audio lead directly to the CPU's sound out, I hear the music on the game perfectly fine, yet Composite out or RF out, there's no sound..  And with any other game, all is fine.

That makes no sense

If I were you, I would follow the path of the audio signal from the CPU to the RCA and see where's the  problem.

thing is though, any other game, and the audio works fine through the audio out jack on the side of the NES..

Found it, and it's a weird one...

In the Zelda cartridge, an ANT, was shorting the 5v and another pin, which I think is the ground...

im actually surprised the NES worked at all, but it's still weird how it "blocked" the sound coming out of the NES..

Is ANT a strange abbreviation for something, or are you talking about one of these?
