Post by: A Murder of Crows on September 19, 2005, 06:58:33 AM
anyone have a quick and easy way to test out the inputs on one of these?  is there a way to use component video on it?  or maybe an RCA or SVideo to D-Sub adapter?

i only have a saturn SCART cable, a ps2/xbox/gamecube svideo cable, and rca cables for eveyrthing else

i've git the option to buy, but i don't want to buy it without making sure it works....

The way you test it is you feed it a signal for 15KHz--if it works then it supports it, and from the specs I've seen on other XC monitors (I own one) it surely supports VGA as well.

You would have to either adapt your SCART RGB cable to fit its socket, or (better option) make a converter by way of a simple patch cable (http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-SCART-5M-CABLE-EXTENSION-LEAD-MALE-FEMALE_W0QQitemZ5809151948QQcategoryZ15067QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) or a cheap switchbox (http://cgi.ebay.com/5-SCART-TO-1-MULTI-SCART-OUTLET-BOX-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ5808426468QQcategoryZ15067QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), either way it's a little work. I'd be surprised if it didn't support 15KHz, my XC model does and I think it's an excellent unit.

If you want to use component with this monitor you will need to use a transcoder (http://www.vdigi.com/) of some kind, though there are some that are console specific like the VGA cable made from a Gamecube component cable, or the X2VGA (http://www.x2vga.com/) for XBox. It isn't a simple adaptor, the video type has to be converted and that's why it's a little more expensive to do.

Edit--I just found this (http://www.rentcom.com/catalog/Graphics_Monitors.html), scroll down the page a bit. According to that it does 15-81KHz syncs, composite or sync on green either via BNC or 15-pin DSUB. Get it and go with god, I think you'll be very happy with this one.

Well, my bid was $110.  some jerk snagged it for $112.50 and then offered it to me for $50 over what he paid.

then he found out info, and when i went to pick it up, he jacked up the cost...so final cost for me was $320, plus $40 in gas and a full day of time.

got it home and it has some issues...seem minor...mainly the geometry is way off in the upper left hand corner, and the picture isn't too clear coming out of my computer.

Endy, when you get a chance, try to yahoo me.  got some questions about repair info, etc.

here i am, a year later

is anyone able to help me decide on if i should sac the RGBHV connector in place of an SCART, or if i should just get someone to build an adapter for that, i'd appreciate it.

i would need to get someone to help me do a conversion cable for SCART to BNC.

i can't do the build work myself anymore...my hands shake way too bad when i solder

i can pay!

thank you

Why the hell did you put up with that? At that price I'd have told him to fuck the hell off and enjoy his nice new monitor.

I wouldn't mind a SCART to BNC (or RGB) cable. I would love to use my sega saturn and PS2 with my Megaview XC3315C (which shouldn't be too much different than an XC3730). I will be getting a BNC to VGA cable soon for my dreamcast, PC and XBOX/Gamecube (via my component to to VGA transcoder). I tried using S-Video and the picture is washed out, not centered, and has these weird lines on the top of the screen.

I too would pay for such a cable! I can't solder to save my life (hands are too shaky from nerve damage).
