Title: USB converter for DC Arcade stick
Post by: Bice on October 09, 2004, 08:01:22 PM
In my haste I bought a USB triolinker adapter from lik-sang linky link (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=4&products_id=4532&) , without reading the reviews at the bottom stating that it does not work with the dreamcast arcade stick!:( The only reason I bought the damn thing!!!
Now I e-mailed the company asking why and if there would be a driver update to fix this, their reply was simply that the dreamcast  arcade stick doesnt support USB 3.0 ?
Now this sounds like crap to me.
I want to use my DC arcade stick with a USB converter to hook up to my computer, (but not replace the arcade sticks cord with a USB one!)There must be a way, to build a converter!?
I see on gamesx.com you guys seem to be able to convert anything?!
:)

The short answer is yes, but it's quite a bit of work. Dreamcast controllers use a bus sustem called Maple. It, and the general controller protocol are well documented. I don't know about the arcade stick though. I'd assume it is not standard as it isn't playing nice with your adaptor. If you really want to do it yourself though, check out the PIC line of microcontrollers. A number of them that have the various bits to work over USB built in, and those are plenty fast enough to talk to a DC controller too.
