Title: X68000 XVI internal SCSI2SD power
Post by: aapuzzo on November 05, 2025, 01:17:21 PM
I just bought a X68000 XVI CZ634 and I'm trying to get my SCSI2SD working internally.  I was reading the scsi cable alone should be able to power the the SCSI2SD.  I was banging my head against the wall having no luck until I used a molex power adapter from a usb to hard drive kit to power it.  I thought with scsi models like the XVI you didn't need to connect the power connector as it got power via the scsi cable.

Next to the Scsi cable end I see 3 pin power connector.  Do i need to make an adapter to take 5v and ground from this and apply it to the molex connector on the scsisd? or is there a better way to get internal power to the device?  Or shoudl I be getting power over the scsi cable?

Check the FUSE (https://buffis.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/mounted-1152x1536.jpg) on the scsi pcb.

I'm getting continuity across the F601 fuse in the photo.  I just did some reading and it seems there are different version of scsi2sd.

I just got this one and i's a version 4.2.  I think I found my answer here.  Says 4.2 needs external power.  I either need to make a power adapter for the molex to add 5v and G or toss it in the trash and get a newer one.  I did not know there were different versions.  This wasn't an ali express special but an American seller that included it with an SD card.  Guess its old inventory.  Is there any other reason to get a newer one and count my losses here?

The "term power" 5v is on pin 38 in scasi 50-pin connectors. I have only ACE, Expert and CZ600 and they don't have power on "term power" pin, so i had to add it for external drive (internally i preferred to use the dedicated power connector):

I wonder if Sharp connected the "term power" pin in XVI internal cable, you should check if it has 5v before acquiring a new scsi2sd

My problem was definitely the scsi2sd version I bought.  I connected the hd factory connector to the 4 pin molex and everything works.  Normally I would have just cut the factory connector off and made that a molex but I disnt have the heart to do that to the X68000 so I bought the matching factory connector on digikey and made a 4 pin molex adapter.
