Title: Interest Check: Towns MIDI card
Post by: Cyothevile on May 23, 2025, 11:01:17 AM
Upon further analysis it seems it could be possible to access certain DMA registers in all towns computers on the white connector. Now, what this implies is we can do a lot of stuff!

Primarily I have thought of going after making a MIDI card for Towns. A lot of those MIDI cards go for high prices and they're typically unavailable for long periods on yahoo. So I thought of bridging that gap.

If this interests you please let me know.

What is the use case for a Towns midi card? Is there wide spread support in notable games?

My understanding is that despite the Towns having a capable FM synthesizer, most games make use of CD audio for music.

Ill get some perfboard in a few days and begin analyzing the white port.
If video is present Ill also see feasibility of some type of DVI output as well.
