Title: Why is my video output squished horizontally?
Post by: CRTin4K on May 09, 2024, 10:45:51 AM
After years of wanting one, I finally got a working X68000. However, all of my games are squished horizontally. I'm using a Sony CPD-1302 tri-sync monitor which is capable of displaying all three video modes, but the majority of them don't fill the screen even with the h-width pot maxed. Does an original Sharp monitor just offer an absurd amount of horizontal width adjustment? The only games I've found so far to fill my screen are Mahou Daisakusen in 15khz wide mode, and Akumajou Dracula in 15khz mode.

Is this something that can be fixed? I'm so excited to play this thing but it certainly doesn't seem right like this.

Lots of games on x68000 do not fill the screen, even on a real x68000 monitor.  That said, your image does seem to be a bit narrower than usual.

Only 15khz games fill the screen on my x68000 monitor.

Strider in the photo is 15khz. Does that one fill the screen on your monitor? I'm thinking the Sharp monitors might have more horizontal adjustment than my Sony. I'm working on getting a Sharp monitor and hopefully that makes them a little bigger.

This is what Strider looks like on my Sharp monitor running in 15khz.
