Title: PC Engine/TurboGrafX controller differences.
Post by: Sumez on April 27, 2004, 12:33:26 PM
I heard that a TurboGrafX-16 controller doesn't work on a PC Engine. But I can't find any information on this.
Are the ports different? Or can you use a TG-16 multitap with a PC Engine? (in this case, my PCE is a CoreGrafx)

I know the a TG16 and a Turbo Duo have different ports, but that only results in further confusion from my side.

Just purchase a TG-16 to PC engine adapter (8 din to 8 mini din adapter). I believe TZD is still selling these. Otherwise check Ebay. The ports just have a different layout and different sized connectors.

Actually, I was mainly asking because I wanted to know if I could but a TG16 multitap or needed a PCE specific one. I guess I need one for PCE then. Easier than buying TG16 controllers and tap and then get a converter... and then getting rid of my PCE controller.

fyi, the TurboDuo controllers and taps have the same smaller din that the PC Engines have.

If you're customizing your TG multitap you can probably easily shove 5 additional duo-sized ports into the shell, they're tiny and it's big.  Just be sure to only use one at a time!  =)

so wait your idea is to add a mini din port (duo sized) into a TG multitap, and just assigning it to the proper numbering? That is an awesome idea! However, I tried to make my own custom made duo to TG adapter (since there aren't any for sale only TG to Duo) but I didn't have any success after about an hour of testing.

There's been talk of my diagrams (on gamesx.com) being inaccurate, so take that into consideration when mucking about...

That was my post. I wasn't saying they were inacurate, just didn't realize that you had generic numbering instead of PCB numbering. I just thought they should match the turbolist to avoid confusion.
