Title: NES2 (Top Loader) AV mod
Post by: Sumez on April 14, 2004, 09:02:56 AM
The AV mod described on GameX seems quite simple.
But I'd like to see someone who's done it in practice. The images only show closeups of four solderings on the board. Does anyone have pictures of what the actual result looks like inside the NES?

Remind me later to snap some photos the next time I open my NES2 up. It isn't too bad, I just studied the diagrams (there were two provided) and built it on a small board. I put the board near the cartridge port.

I'm not sure when I'm supposed to remind you, but I'd be very thankful if you would. :)

Here, hope this helps. It really isn't bad. My RF and Composite lines used the same ground connection. Make sure you watch out for the the screw near the cartridge port if you are going to mount where I did. I actually have it a little lower, but moved it so you could see it better. Let me know if you need anymore help. Also, I will add some more photos on my [b

If you mail them to sumez@c.dk I can host them on my server.

ok, so this mod turned out pretty good. On my 27" TV it appears fullscreen and the "lines" have been reduced significantly.

However, on my 32" TV, the image dosn't display 100% properly. the image is shifted over to the right a bit, but the odd thing is the part of the screen that is cut off from the right appears on the left. The weird thing is that it only does it on the 32" and not on the 27". Now when I went to Radio Shack, they didn't have 1.3K ohm resistors, they only had 1.5k ohm. Would this have anything to do with it?

Hi,

Im in the UK and am interested in getting a NES2 for its reliabily, no lockout chip, and because it should be a part of any NES collection! Im pretty certain that with just the RF out it wont be compatable with my PAL TV (as I remember hearing somewhere that NTSC RF is a different frequency to PAL RF). Would adding the A/V mod allow me to get the thing working through composite?

Until Im sure I can actually play one on my TV I cant go ahead and buy one  :(

Cheers.
