Title: New Project, Help me choose console.
Post by: ninn on February 22, 2011, 09:09:42 AM
Hi!

Love your forum!  So much :D

I am currently a bit too bored and I'm in need of a project to start (and this time I will finish it   ::) promise!)

Since I like lowrez and consoles, and a second-hand-store next to my work currently carries a 1084 monitor, I chose to combine those three topics: Modifying the console so I can connect it to this monitor for superb video quality. The ext step would be put the console with the monitor in a small cab, modify the controls to joysticks (or a spinner, in case of the Jaguar) and enjoying it  :D

But I am unsure which console I should pick to modify and connect. Please help me choose one of my consoles to modify.

I got very poor skills in eletronics and reading diagrams, and my soldering skills compare better to blunt force than engineering. I like to confuse polarities. But lots of friends do this stoff for fun, and they could help me build platines, read schematics, and reproduce them on bread boards, or tell me which parts I need to get.

So ... which console would you think fits best for me to get some RGB love out of my 1084?

Thanks for reading,
thanks for your opinion in advance,
ninn.  :D

Go with your megadrive, it's one of the most affordable and well documented. Mods also shouldn't require too much skill and the rgb signal doesn't require any amping.

it's one of the first things that I hooked into my RGB monitor seeing as all you need is the right cable. also

As an aside, hooking a Megadrive to an RGB monitor is the very first thing I tried to do with RGB, and it was the reason for GameSX becoming a technical site instead of just a homepage for my game store.

So, carry on.  =D

Also, I've had success just connecting the C-sync to either H-sync, or both H and V on the monitor.  No extra parts required.

Lawrence is the admin of this site and is also pretty knowledgeable in these matters.

M.E.G.A.D.R.I.V.E.
The first gen is better than the megadrive 2 if modding is vital IMO.
Have fun  ;)
