Title: OS questions
Post by: pmack on September 09, 2010, 07:33:29 AM
The x68k Expert I got comes with no OS disks so I am wondering what I really need to buy for it as far as OS goes.

Is Human68k part of ROM or do we always need the boot disks?

How about SX-Window? is there any new functionality it provides or is it just a GUI on top of the OS?

 Hi !

First of all you will need a 5.25" 1.2mb floppy drive and a computer with Windows95 or Windows98. The program which is used for transferring floppy images to real disks is called xFloppy v1.1

Get it  here:
http://www.geocities.jp/lieutenantq1998/xfloppy.htm (http://www.geocities.jp/lieutenantq1998/xfloppy.htm)

This program is able to handle xdf files. Sometimes the floppy images will come as dim files. In this case you will need to convert them to xdf with Virtual Floppy Image Converter.

Get it here:

The main X68000 operating system is called HumanOs and is always booted from floppy or hard drive.

Get it here:

As for the SX-Window, it is something similar to Microsoft Windows 3.11  Every serious game will run under HumanOs so no need for SX-Windows.

As for the software, you can download the latest "TOSEC Sharp_x68000_TOSEC_2010-05-02" from the usual places.

Best of luck !
