Title: Official Gamecube SCART cable: can it be modified for SNES use?
Post by: keropi on October 28, 2009, 08:52:34 PM
Hiya!

I bought from eBay the official Gamecube cable:

(http://i.ebayimg.com/08/!B,SBzD!BWk~$(KGrHgoOKjQEjlLmWWZMBKq0l5wLyg~~_12.JPG)

I searched but did not found any pics of it's inside, can this be modified for use with a PAL SNES console? are the caps easily removed?

Thanks!

Can't you just open it yourself? :-)

There should be caps in it and they should offer little resistance if you try to remove them.

The official Scart plug has a nasty little locking mechanism which can make it a pain to open, although it is possible with a bit of patience and perseverance. Yes you can unsolder the capacitors, but you still need to add 75ohm resistors to ground on the Red, Green and Blue lines which might be difficult given that the official cable has a nice little circuit board inside, plus it uses crimp style Scart pins which you cant easily solder to  :(

To be honest official GameCube Scart cables are not that easy to come by anymore, and if you are determined to have a high quality Scart cable for your PAL SNES it would probably work out about the same price to sell your GameCube Scart cable and track down an official PAL SNES Scart cable which are available from ebay France. They look almost identical but have a grey Scart plug and MultiAV plug instead of black. I managed to get mine for around 5 euros with 8 euros postage to the UK.

You can see pictures inside practically all the official cables in this old thread:-

For future reference you just have to put "official gamecube scart" in the search here:-

and its the second thread down after this one! ;)

<EDIT> A bit pricier than mine but I just found these two PAL SNES Scart cables on ebay France, both with 'buy it nows':-

@Midori:

I would open it allright, but I have not received it yet, I asked so I could order another one in the meantime  ;D

@Link83:

Is there something you don't know? THANKS AGAIN!!!! I ordered the 13.99 snes cable, since the seller ships to Greece , cheap and quality don't mix I think  ;)
Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it!  ;D

Today I received the official SNES scart cable. I tried it in my LG lcd/tv and I can see a faint really small checker-board moire effect in solid colors... The tv is fince, since saturn/dc/cdx display OK via scart... is there an improvement mod for the snes scart? the moire pattern is faint, it does not bother BUT it is there LOL]
thanks!
