Hello.
I have a computer monitor full of video inputs, one of them is component cable and able to show 480i. It lacks scart rgb or rgb, so I would like to convert rgb 15khz signals to component.
Due to economical problems, I consider paying $40 USD for a device like this too much. I'm able to build somewhat simple schematics, so I would like to do it.

What schematics are the best? Are there more ones available?
It seems analog rgb/scart is a standard that is being forgotten, component is still there because of the hdtv madness so there's some hope about 15khz rgb signals on modern displays.

Several, if not many component-equipped PC monitors have trouble showing 240p signals. So before you start your project you should make sure that your display can actually show 15khz 240p and not only 15khz 480i.

How to know it? My monitor is HP 2475w. I did put an Atari 800XL on it over s-video and it was showing it correctly, for example.

Unfortunately you can only try or locate someone online with a Wii + your monitor + 240p VC games. On a quite similar Samsung LCD PC display for example. S-Video works fine, but component stays black with 240p signals. It's - unfortunately - a quite common problem.
And the linked JROK converter is more expensive than those $40-60 eBay RGB to YUV converters...

The first two are not compattible with SCART RGB video (missing a video clamp). The third one I have build and it works well. The fourth one isn't a component video converter.

How well it worrks? Did you try it with lores, interlaced and 15khz signals?
If you never want to worry about will it work... save your pennies and buy a Kramer FC-14 (thats what I did):

Works flawlessly, supports a variety of sync configurations, and works with any RGB signal you thow at it - 240p to 1080i!!! Comes with a good power supply that works from 100VAC to 240VAC, and is all ROHS compliant! :P The only down side is if you wish to use a PS1 (no sync output on multi out connector), an external sync stripper is required. However, I've built LM1881 circuits and got a pair of brand new Extron VSS 100s (http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vss100&search=ss100 (http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vss100&search=ss100)) off of ebay for $10!

The price of the FC-14 varies based off of the territory that it is sold in. I believe the unit is sells for less where I bought it than in Spain, but you'd have to check yourself... and Kramer offers more RGBS to component converters in Europe:

What game? I already have Megaman 2 for NES from Virtual Console.

Any NES or SNES VC game should do, as I have not found a single NES or SNES game released on VC that doesn't output the 240p/doublestrike mode. The Genesis and Turbografx emulators used by VC games output 480i mode, and not 240p/doublestrike... I haven't checked out the NeoGeo VC games though...
