Title: Interfacing Dualshock with PSP
Post by: eddeep-beep on May 31, 2008, 07:18:57 AM
Hey all

I have been thinking about this idea for some time now - interfacing a ps2 dualshock controller with a psp using some pics, and the original controller connectors.

Any thoughts and ideas on the matter would be great, i have tapped/soldered every button / control in the psp , ready to be interfaced, and i have found several good links, and some loosely related.

Please post if you think you can add some input on the matters, and here are the links.

Someone has beaten you to it:

F00's design incorporates many of your requirements, including an elegant cable connector. Here's another mod using the on-board connector:

hmm..maybe i wasnt clear enough
thanks, id already seen those links, and i haev done a mod exactly like that, interfacing th ebuttons to the psp point to point, using different connectors, and lots of wiring. I would like to know if it possible to take the signals from the ps2 controller out of the standard dualshock connecto 9 pin plug, and convert them with a micro controller, into standard button press signals, and do the same wit the psp, so that i could just plug in any normal un modded ps2 controller into a dualshcok connector attached to the psp

Programming a PIC is outside the scope of this forum, but it is possible. You probably want to have a look at the PSX-to-USB convertors that are commercially available to get an idea of how PS2 controller output is decoded.

Please capitalize abbreviations and acronyms as needed for clarity. A pic is a picture, whereas a PIC is a programmable integrated circuit.
