Title: FDS replacement belt
Post by: NeWmAn on January 31, 2008, 08:23:05 AM
Does anyone know where a replacement belt for a Famicom disc system can be bought?
Ebay or Yahoo JP seem the only options, but it's either high price or high proxy fees :(
Maybe some alternative/compatible part could be used?
And what about head alignment? Is there a guide for that operation anywhere on the net?

Nintendo stopped servicing thos drives late last year.  They may have belts left, but they've been warning for a while now that their stock is nearly depleted.

I use elastics.  A good rubber band works just as well as the original.  The FDS isn't exactly what you'd call a high-recision device.  =)

Set it up with good tension and you should be OK.

I don't have any alignment advice for you.

Really it does work? I'll give it a try if I can find an elastic that fits.

Thanks!

I couldn't find an elastic with the right size, so I used an O-Ring seal and it worked! ;D
After the repair the drive was giving read errors (error 22) but it was just a matter of adjusting the speed trimmer.
