Title: PSX Optical Mouse
Post by: Matarick on December 22, 2006, 01:10:06 PM
Since I have RPG Maker, both PSX Tokimeki Memorial games, and soon to get Dezaemon Plus; I wonder if it would be possible to sacrificing the innards of a PSX mouse according to the pin outs at the bottom (http://pinouts.ru/Game/playstation_9_pinout.shtml) to match up the optical sensing unit of an optical mouse?

Does Optical mice use it's own chipset to convert optical data as track movement, or it would be a simple mod like your USB Saturn Pad solution?

I wonder if the same principle would apply for Saturn and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive mice?

Thank you in advance and Happy Holidays to NFG Games.

The concept is similar to trying to replace the optical N64 joystick mech with a potentiometer-based mech.  You need to re-write the chip in the controller to convert the pure inputs into something the PS can understand.  I'm sure it's not impossible, but it's not trivially easy either.
