Title: Screwed SNES doing 50/60Hz mod
Post by: Dave J on December 12, 2003, 04:36:03 AM
I've done the 50/60Hz switch SNES mod a couple of times before, but this time i killed the SNES!

I did the mod OK, except i forgot the 2.2k resistor. I powered it up and it worked fine. Turned it off, realised my mistake but by then it was too late! It wouldn't power on again - no LED, no video, no sound, no nothing!

I have a few spares lying around so I was wondering what component(s) it would have blown? I reckon it's probably the voltage regulator, but I though i'd ask before ripping it apart.

Any help and opinions appreciated!

There's a fuse suspended in the air near the power regulator.  It's probably blown.  Use your multimeter to test it, if it's dead you'll get no continuity across it.  If it's working you will - and you'll have to search for another problem.

You can replace it with another picafuse of 1.5A.

Lawrence.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I actually already tried replacing it before (wasn't sure it was a fuse though).

It still didn't power on :(

However, I just tested the one I removed and it is blown.

OK I've got it powering on now.

But I don't get anything on screen - just black - as if the cart isnt in properly.

I;ve tried blowing the connector and a numbe rof different carts with the same result.

Any ideas?

I managed to get a blank screen on a snes doing this mod today.  Mine was caused by not being able to count, I used pin 25 instead of 24.

I release your post is very old, but thought i'd let you know incase you're still having problems

Pete

i got the same by shorting something somewhere (i dont know where.. its in another post if you care) your snes can be completely dead but still get the power led going.. mine was dead, no hope of revival.. the power led still worked happily.

I'm closing this topic since it's seems to be flagged by the spam bot for future updates. Please feel free to start a new topic if you wish to continue discussion of synch-rate mods on the SNES.
