Title: Game Gear cuts out
Post by: Stew on March 17, 2006, 09:49:10 AM
wondering if anyone can help me...

just pulled my old sega game gear out of the cupboard to give it a burl again. Put fresh batteries in and when i turn it on, it cuts out after about 1-4 seconds??

The red power light comes on, then it all just cuts off again. Has anyone had this problem before?? Anyone know how to fix it? I've pulled it apart and checked the switch, but its working fine... so now i'm wondering what else it could be??

Many Thanks
Stew

my friend had one whichj would run for 15-20 seconds then cut out, in my experience anything timed is usually a capacitor, you could look for capacitors with swelled ends or stuff around the base which looks like it leaked at some point.. but i could be completely wrong, just a suggestion.

Leaky SMD capacitors are a common fault in Game Gears.  They are usually pretty easy to spot and replace.  Sometimes the hardest part is finding a replacement that fits exactly in the space available.
