don't have a lot of time. not even sure if the N4005 is compatible with RGB, but so far it seems good.
any info/opinions?
thanx all
It looks like the N4005-A monitor does not support 15KHz (http://www.monitorworld.com/Monitors/next/n4005.html), so if you get it, you will still need an XRGB2 Plus. It is vital for use with console RGB that the monitor syncs at 15Khz. VGA level monitors normally start at 30 which is why they're incompatible. I couldn't find anything specifically on an NEC monitor with that model number, just the NeXT one. If you have any other information it could help.
btw, from your other thread, if you are just looking for a monitor suggestion, here's one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Lot-2-NEC-Video-Monitor-XM-2950_W0QQitemZ5237534241QQcategoryZ41807QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), or rather two of one model. It supports 15KHz for consoles and 30KHz+ for VGA levels so it can work with computers, or with VGA modes in the newest consoles (XBox, Gamecube, etc.). I have one just like it and I think it's excellent. One of those is broken, might be patient and ask about the picture on the other or keep your eyes peeled. Suitable monitors show up all the time on ebay.
thanx for the link. I emailed that guy, won't recieve a word till tomorrow though. Can't afford it if shipping is over $50, and by the looks of things, they won't really test the unit first
as for the other post, i'd really like to see an RGB monitor database....Make, model, size, manufactured year, connector type, other features. it would save people some hassle...even if only the people who actually own such a monitor posted their info, we'd have a solid start.
Did you even look at monitorworld? Any Sony PVM monitor will do 15KHz. The Sony GVM series will do 15KHz and 31+. There are several various and sundry NEC and Mitsubishi models that will do this. Seriously, my database has always been ebay. I just type in "video monitor" and maybe a brand name NEC, Sony, Mitsu or what have you and go to town. Find one that looks promising and investigate, if it doesn't have specs consult monitorworld. There isn't a great need for this database I think.
i've been there several times, but could see no easy way to search for monitors by 15khz.
what i am looking for is a flat out list of monitors...no investigation required....that all do at least 15khz.
i'm not at all interested in looking at every single monitor at monitorworld simply to see if a monitor does what i need it to do or not....when i'm looking for a product, i like my info up front so i know i have options, as opposed to going in blindly.
i tried it the way you suggested and it doesnt seem to work for me. I want to go into ebay or where-ever else armed with knowledge of the product i know i want, and the suitable replacements if i can not find it.
thanx
I've given you monitors that you want. It doesn't require any further investigation. Look at all these monitors (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=sony+pvm). They all do 15KHz. The Sony GVM does 15 and 31+. Not enough? Well here (http://search.stores.ebay.com/ws/search/StoreItemSearch?from=R40&fsoo=1&fsop=1&satitle=sony+pvm&sbrexp=WD1S&sbrhrlink=str&sif=1&sofp=4). Start looking into this and you see pretty quickly why nobody has the little pull-down "buy this" menu that you are expecting. The stuff is obscure. But you know the catches already. That's all you need to find it. If it does 15KHz analogue (not digital) composite sync then you are in business.
What criteria are you looking for? Size? Must it do 31KHz and 15? Price? Ease of acquisition (i.e. cost of shipping and/or picking up)? These are things that can't be easily quantified into a database of items that are mostly only available affordably second-hand. But everything you need to know to get what you want is before you already. I really don't know why you don't see that.

If i were doing the database, then yes, it would need to include all the following information:
Make
Model
Year
Size (it must be 25 inches or bigger, replacing front room TV)
Horizontal khz (mine must do 15 AND 30, replacing front room Computer Monitor) in analog mode
Resolution
I/O types
it's not that i "don't see" it's that there isn't a solid, 100% viable resource that i can check these facts out on.
Right now, i'm considering another monitor that has the following features:
Up to 1280H x 1024V / 75Hz non-interlaced
Accepts input signal 15kHz-85kHz horizontal, 40Hz-120Hz vertical
4 Inputs: 2 RGB, 2 Video
1st RGB input is BNC x 5 looping and will accept H/V sync, composite sync or sync on green
2nd RGB input is 15-pin sub D
1st Video input is Composite BNC or RCA and switchable to 4 pin S-Video
2nd Video input is Composite BNC or RCA
Video capability is NTSC, M-NTSC, PAL, SECAM and RGB analog
Audio:
RCA x 2 audio in/out for Video 1, 2 and RGB
the ONLY reason why i know all this is because it was in the info of the craigslist ad. it was NOT in monitorworld. Now, originally all i had was the Part number, not the model name...when i did a search for the model name, SOME monitors showed up, but not the one i was interested in. Then, when i typed in the Part number for one of the monitors that actually showed up under the model name, i DID NOT get the monitor i was looking up information on!
This is why i feel at least a small matrix or database would be worthwhile....the WIKI idea is a great one. Thanks to you, we know all Sony PVM monitors will work. that's peachy for Sony, but what if the Sony monitors are out of reach? that NEC monitor looked promising, so its info should go in. and i believe i got the right monitor with the MegaView Pro 37, but i don't know for sure right this second....it seems to comply with all the rules though.
I feel it would be REALLY nice to newbies to hand them a list of all different makes, models, and sizes, with the ability to be organized in different ways (size, connections, manufacturer, and maybe original retail price)
All Mitsubishi Megaview monitors do 15KHz RGB also; I am less familiar with this line even though I own one, but the model that I have supports 15 and 31+ KHz. It's possible that all of them do as each Megaview I have seen does this. There are several various and sundry NEC monitors that do 15 and 31KHz and several others that do 15KHz only, and several other NECs that only do Composite and/or S-video. The thing with those monitors is that you can tell on sight that they won't work, because they lack any complex pin connector. Sometimes you'll see a connector labeled "VTR," which looks like it has enough pins but this only does composite and sends some controller info between the monitor and device (for use in TV studios).
The monitor you listed does work. It does RGB, it does RGB in analogue mode, and it works at 15KHz. That's all any monitor needs to do this. Get it if the tube is in good shape (since you mention craigslist I presume it is locally located) and be happy. What model number is that Megaview? You mentioned 37", is this the one (http://monitorworld.com/Monitors/mitsubishi/megaviewpro37xc725c.html)?

3730 is the one i was trying to get. it seems it might be sold however. Turns ou
he's offering an 3725 as well, but here is what he mentions:
Model Details:
Date of Manufacture December, 1992
24 kHz to 64 kHz RGBS Input
Resolution: 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1025
1 - S-VHS Input: Line Doubles to 31.5 kHz
2 - Composite Inputs - NTSC/PAL
34"W, 23"D, 28" High.
Non Stackable for multi monitor use.
Accepts RGB input signal 24kHz-64kHz horizontal and 40Hz-120Hz vertical
35" viewable image
NTSC, M-NTSC, PAL, SECAM and RGB analog
Resolution up to 1024H x 768V
Composite video input is scan doubled
Input 1 is Composite BNC looping or RCA and S-Video switchable
Input 2 is Composite BNC or RCA
RGBS input accepts 24kHz-64kHz and is BNC in/out
Internal speakers and external speaker output
this doesn't seem like what id need...and its a megaview that, if hes right, doesn't take 15khz.
hopefully i'll know in a few hours for sure about if the 3730 was sold or not
Here is Mitsubishi's product page for discontinued Megaviews (http://www.mitsubishi-megaview.com/docs/service/?id=discontinued). All three "Megaview 37" models show they support 15KHz so I would suspect he's got his figures a bit off or does not have the interlaced scan rates listed unless he has something definitive that states to the contrary. And my gut tells me it does 15KHz.
The thing has an internal line-doubler to handle standard 15KHz rates (S-Video input). That would suggest that the RGB input won't handle 15KHz.
doesn't matter now...they are all sold. but it would be nice to confirm that the 3730c is infact compatible, svideo or not.
