Post by: thermodan on November 07, 2004, 11:21:42 PM
I want to dismantle the scart socket on these cables to get at the capacitors. How do I do this without detroying the cable ?

Well, the official RGB Nintendo Cable is quite tricky. You have to press the tabs located just at the point where the SCART connector is, and then you could twist it "safely" (I mean, twist it while pressing). When I opened mine, I cut those tabs, to prevent further problems if I want to disassemble it again.

See you.

Are you talking about the scart-end of the cable that plugs into the TV, or the AV-end that plugs into the console ? I can't see any "tabs" on the scart-end (are they part of the metal connector ?). I can dismantle the AV-end no problem. The scart-end looks like it is hinged on one side of the plastic casing meaning it would open like a book.

It's the end that plugs into the TV.  It is hinged, but you have to unscrew a bit first.  To unscrew it there are a couple of tabs that need to be squeezed in whilst you do the unscrewing, have a look at the attached pic.

I ended up using a small screwdriver to push a tab in at a time, and after pushing each one in, I managed to turn the unscrew bit a tiny bit.  After squeezing them all in (3 or 4, can't remember), i twisted and pulled at the same time to get the unscrewing to work.

Hope that makes sense!!
