Title: PS2 & Commodore monitor
Post by: yirmiahu72 on October 15, 2009, 04:03:02 PM
Hey,

What's the best way to connect a PS2 to a old Commodore monitor that has seperate Chroma Luma inputs besides the standard composite method.

I'm trying to figure out what the best picture I can get from this is.

Thanks in advance

Chroma and Luma are the names given to the separate signal pins in an S-video connection. Arguably, you could build an adapter that has the four-pin female S-video cnnector on one end and two male RCA plugs on the other, and that would give you a way to use a standard PS2 S-video cable with the Commodore monitor.

I made a cable like this for exactly that reason, and it worked perfectly.  S-video is actually a very excellent signal if you've got a good monitor (and the Commodore monitor usually is).

These are really easy to make... I've constructed a diagram for you to follow.  (see attachment)

EDIT:

Parts list:
-4 pin mini din female inline connector
-2 RCA male plugs
-4 wires (or 2 runs of mini coax)
