Title: NES Controller Pinout
Post by: kripp on October 10, 2005, 09:02:13 AM
Ive looked at a couple of pinouts for the NES controller, but the only one I could find that had any wire color information was a pinout for the SNES controller. This is the information ive got:

Brown = GND
Yellow = CLK
Orange = P/L
Red = Q1
White = +5v

Is this correct or am I totally off base here?

Thanks.

Wire color may vary from controller to controller, depending on what parts were being used in what factory. Unless you're certain that a standard has been rigidly applied across the board, you should never rely on the color of the wire to determine the function or the signal. It's always safer (and usually necessary) to compare the wire at the connector to the wire at the PCB.

-KKC, who's opened up more than one 90's era controller and found that all the wires were the same color. Now that's annoying.

Thanks for the advice. I double checked my colors with what was on the motherboard/PCB side of things. All check out for my application.

Thanks.
