So I have a model 1 Saturn and I wanted to do a 50/60hz mod switch for certain UK imports I wand to play (like PDS). However, there ISN'T a model 1 50/60hz mod on the net. Not that I could find anyway. And the model 2 mods were having people cut very thin traces and such. So I got to work on an easier model 1 (or 2) way of doing things...
On the bottom of the Saturn board near the video output are two jumpers, namely JP 1 and JP 2. These are what control the 50/60hz of the system. SIMPLE. JP 1 is the detector line and (if you have a US or JP system) it has a trace to 5v. JP 2 has ground on one end (not traced obviously) and JP 1 on the other end. The detector line also leads to pin 7 of the video chip (CXA1645) which is....guess what.... the PAL to NTSC switch (5v or ground). Piece of cake. So now you can do it for model 1 saturns and you don't have to worry about cutting and soldering to tiny traces, you got big solder jumper pads to work with ^_^

Alternatively, you can look for the chip labelled 315-5964 , 315-5690 or 315-5890 and lift pin 79 - switch it between Ground (50Hz) and 5 Volts (60Hz).
Works on all Saturns I've modded so far - Model 1/2, UK and JP machines.
yea, that's what I've read. I just found a far more basic way of doing things. Plus, you have to switch pin 7 of the CXA1645.

oh and 5v is 60hz and ground is 50hz. you got it swapped.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound critical of your mod. I was just responding to the above comment. :)

Yeah, sorry - been working on too many SNESes recently. :P
Fixed now, cheers.
oh no problem at all, sorry if I came off harsh there. I knew there was an output from the sega chip that controlled the hz rate, I just couldn't find it online.
