Title: Need thoughts/methods on making AES joysticks wireless
Post by: bigsanta on March 28, 2011, 08:42:43 AM
I've seen the use of the playstation to neo geo joypad convertors ,for making wireless AES joysticks ,but getting my hands on these convertors in the UK is proving fruitless,So it's come down to looking for a wireless for dummies type of thing.I toyed with using a 6 button mega drive wireless ,but i'd expect trouble ,as they don't use multiplexers ,so making a demux is out.Maybe another games system which uses just simple on/off switches, (no mux ICs or ASICs)could be used .

Any ideas ,guides or simple wireless type of things that would help ?

Could a cheap ir method be used instead, like along the lines of canibalising an old IR tv remote and a receiver ?

I posted a method to connect Saturn PADs to Jamma boards on this very forum. That should allow you to use SATURN wireless pads with the NEO.

Not the most common pad you can find. Also my circuit could be easily re-tooled for MD pads.

I had a quick look for the wireless saturn pads ,  ;D £100/$200  upwards
But since the 6 button mega drive pads don't use off the shelf parts ,unlike the 3 button version (which is easy to demux, just like the pc engine pads),how would/can you decode it with your (re tooled)circuit ?

I think an schematic for the 6 button MD pad exists in this very forum. I'll have a look... But I can't promise it would work for 6 buttons pads...  I had the 3 button pad in mind when I wrote my reply ...

i have heard snes joypads modifed to be playable on ng, why not modify a wireless third part snes infra red snes pad so you can play it on neo geo.

you could even possibly use a neo geo aes joystick as the base  but with using the infra red module for the cannibalised snes joypad, so you get the best of both worlds, should not be pricey either, possibly less than 40 quid for both

SNES controllers are serial. Mean you need to build an complex converter to achieve that goal of connecting them on a Neo Geo.

seems to be possible for a snes to ng aes  compatible joypad, then why not a snes wireless to ng aes

The post you quote describes a Super Famicom controller that has had its encoder chip removed so that the individual buttons can be wired to a Neo controller plug. A wireless receiver could not be modified in a similar way.
