Title: Putting a monitor on its side
Post by: trol on December 08, 2003, 08:54:29 AM
Why does my monitor give weird colors when I put it on its side?
I don't have a speaker ar any other magnet standing next to it :(

This question has been asked and answered many times.  The short answer:  Magnetic fields.

There are two things you need to know:

1. When your TV or monitor is turned on it uses a de-gaussing coil to neutralize the Earth's magnetic field, so it can function without discoloration.

2. This only happens on a cold start.

Solution: Let your monitor cool down (5-20 mins) before you turn it on in the new position.

Caveat: it may take more than one de-gaussing cycle.
