Hi guys, I haven't been around for a long time but I lurk a lot. :)
I have a PS2 slim that was given to me, but it is dead as a doornail. First I thought the power button pcb was broken (it is) but I have since gotten another one and that has been no help either. I don't even get a LED light up. The power supply works, and I have measured the 8.5v at the port. I have gone around and every fuse in this guide:
http://www.boxmodz.com/psrtech/fuses.htm (http://www.boxmodz.com/psrtech/fuses.htm)
Seems to be good. HOWEVER, the only thing I can think of, is that the big fuse F1, that goes straight from the voltage input, leads to a small ceramic part that I have included highlighted in the red box in this picture, this small component has no continuity between its two sides. Is this right? Should I try bridging it with solder to see if I get anything? I don't understand that component because the other side goes to ground, so why is it there?
So I have a couple questions:
1) That component in the red box, what is it and should it have continuity between its sides?
2) If that isn't my problem, where else can I go to look for why this PS2 is dead as a doornail?
3) Do I need the fan connected for the system to boot up at all?
There's not much repair info out there about PS2 slims, I want to save this console and any help would be appreciated. :)
Hi Airthrow !
Maybe this will help:

The big fuse must give continuity,
The one in the red box not, it is a capacitator.

Thanks man, I wonder why my googling didn't find this before. I'll take a look. The case is mint condition, and the PCB looks nice, I really really really want to save this console. I know it's not pricey or anything but it just feels so WRONG sitting on my shelf, not working. :)
