Sony Trinitron RGB-In TV Hack

I have a Sony 20" Trinitron CRT TV set up for playing game systems. It has coaxial VHF input, as well as Composite Video and Audio (A/V) inputs. This is just fine for playing Famicom and NES, but as many know the Sega Genesis / MegaDrive has some pretty nasty composite. I'd like to feed this TV RGB as the tube is excellent. Before I even bother I want to know if there's a gaurenteed check as to whether or not this is an infamous "hot chassis" TV. I don't want to fry neither my Sega nor myself.

It's a KV-20TR22 manufactured in August, 1991.

The OSD is very simplistic; I have my doubts as to the complexity of the internal OSD system and would like to give RGB modding it a shot (those popular RGB --> VGA framebuffer-based adapters simply won't cooperate with my Genesis - they play nice with the SNES though!)

I would try searching for the Service Manual first.  The best site for free ones is here: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/

I modded my JVC for RGB input a while back and it's great.  But not so easy.  OSD can definitely interfere with the input so I had to disable it completely.  The best way is to follow the RGB lines from the neck board to the main IC and try and get a datasheet for that.

But make sure to follow safety precautions.  Working on TVs can actually kill you if you aren't safe.  So look online for how to work on them first.  Don't blame me if you explode...  it would be good if you can make more posts
